Motorcycle races are a popular sport, and amateur and professional competitions are common across the country. However, before you make plans to sign up for the latest content, be sure to read our helpful racing tips below. While it will take some time to learn to get the hang of racing with your motorcycle, with our helpful advice you’re sure to be a pro in no time.

Practice Curves

Turning a motorcycle is a difficult skill to get down, and beginner riders often have to practice it repeatedly in order to get it down pat. However, the curved lane of a race track takes motorcycle turns to a new level. Not only are turns longer and tighter but, in order to get around the track as quickly as possible, you’ll need to stay extremely close to the curve without falling over or crashing into someone. To ensure you’ve got racing turns down pat, practice taking the curve as tightly as possible as often as you can. Remember to lean into the curve—without unbalancing your bike— and to only increase your speed once you’ve made it through the turn and have straightened out again.

Practice Your Riding Position

In a race, you want to be as fast as possible. To decrease drag and ensure you’re hitting top speeds with your motorcycle, be sure to practice your riding position. You should be leaning forward, with your head tucked, and your chest on the tank of the bike in order to make yourself as aerodynamic as possible. However, while this position is easier in theory, it will take a little getting used to. Not only is it hard to hold for longer periods of time, but you’ll also need to get the hang of watching the road ahead of you while your head is tucked down.
